I grew up in a small southern Alabama town named Bay Minette. My parents, Wayne and Ann Thompson still live in my childhood home (its just now full of grandchildren toys and not mine!). My older sister, Tiz Day, her husband Colter and their boys, Sam and Max also live in Bay MInette. In 1998, I left home and followed in my Mom’s footsteps to attend Troy State University. While at Troy, I majored in Accounting, pledged Phi Mu and had a great time. After receiving my MBA from Troy, I moved to Montgomery in 2003 and joined PricewaterhouseCoopers accounting firm. In 2010, I moved over to Baptist Health and now serve as the Director of Financial Operations. I really enjoy the team of people that I work with and look forward to many years with Baptist.
I grew up in Montgomery as the youngest of three children. Like my future in-laws, my parents Herb and Carole Reed also still live in my childhood home. My brother David and his wife Katherine and my nephews Garrett and Cooper live in Memphis. My sister Julie and her husband Tim live in Millbrook with my neice Laura. My nephew Michael is studying at Bama and my other nephew Brian and his wife Bettye are stationed overseas in Korea. Traveling with Susan is about my most favorite thing to do, althought lately I am driving her crazy with my new photography obsession. I am a System Administrator for Cerner at Baptist Health where I met Susan – but more about that later. Oh and ROLL TIDE. I am the one in my grandmother’s lap…always the favorite.
First movie you saw?
We started dating in September 2006, so we THINK the first movie we saw together (after consulting IMDb and an email review to Brian Swanner sent the Monday after) was Martin’s Scorsese’s The Departed with Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg about men from the opposite sides of the law undercover. Another early movie was BORAT – - Darren thought it was great, Susan thought it was not great. Darren wins.
Last movie you saw?
The most recent movie we saw was The Help. Now THAT was an awesome movie. “You is kind, you is smart, you is important.” Gets me every time.
Do you have a pet?
We have two pets…Eddie and Jake. Eddie is a 10-year old female cat that Darren rescued from the engine of the car next door when he was only a tiny kitten. Their relantionship runs deep as Eddie sleeps at the top of Darren’s head most nights. Jake is a 6-year old male greyhound that we adopted from the Birmingham Race Track when he was 4. He is an awesome dog who loves collecting shoes, reclining on the couch and barking at the UPS man.
Where is your honeymoon?
A ~ L ~ O ~ H ~ A ! Our first Christmas as a married couple will be in Hawaii! We plan to visit Kauai, Maui and Hawaii. Since we were huge fans of Lost – Kauai is a must. Maui – just because. Oahu to visit Pearl Harbor. We cannot wait to spend the Holidays in Hawaii!
